Critical Infrastructure & COVID-19 Update

Apr 17, 2020 | Community, Infrastructure, News, Safety

Functioning critical infrastructure is imperative during the response to the COVID-19 emergency for both public health and safety as well as community well-being. In order to help meet critical infrastructure needs, Peckham Industries, Inc. continues to operate essential facilities in conformance with all federal, state, and CDC guidelines to protect our employees, customers and the communities in which we operate.

Listed below are some of the most recent directives that guide our operations at this time. In addition, we will also be adjusting our operations going forward in each state in which we operate to comply with the various decisions of state and local officials. We understand that state and local guidance may change and we will respond accordingly.

According to the Department of Homeland Security, Cybersecurity & Infrastructure Security Agency, “Essential Critical Infrastructure Workers” include:

“Workers necessary for mining and production of critical minerals, materials and associated essential supply chains, and workers engaged in the manufacture and maintenance of equipment and other infrastructure necessary for mining production and distribution. “

“Workers who support the operation, inspection, and maintenance of essential public works facilities and operations, including bridges, water and sewer main breaks, fleet maintenance personnel, construction of critical or strategic infrastructure…”

The chief executive officer of the Associated General Contractors of America, Stephen E. Sandherr, issued the following statement in reaction to the release of the above guidance from the Department of Homeland Security’s Cybersecurity & Infrastructure Security Agency that clarifies construction’s critical role in supporting essential infrastructure.

“Federal officials have, wisely, heeded our advice and opted to release new guidance that makes it clear that construction activities are included in its list of essential critical infrastructure workers. This new federal guidance should help eliminate the confusion and ambiguity that has led several state and local officials to needlessly order halts to construction activity that is clearly essential.”

Peckham Industries is taking all known preventative measures at this time to protect its employees, customers, and greater community as outlined by the CDC, government agencies, and a consortium of industry communications sharing best practices.
