Overlook Medical Center in Summit, New Jersey, sits high on a steep slope above the community. Due to its hillside location, land for additional development is limited. When the hospital needed to solve a patient parking crunch and provide easier access to parking close to patient services, a creative approach to a new employee parking structure on the perimeter of the campus was an appealing solution.

The hospital desired the finished 650-space parking structure on the narrow site as soon as possible due to the shortage of vehicle spaces. An adjacent helipad that remained open during construction added to the many scheduling considerations on this project. Using BIM technology to facilitate communications about the erection schedule, Dailey Precast was able to turn over the garage in sections to the medical center, so employees could begin parking there as soon as each section was ready.

The seven-level garage features two elevators and recharge stations for electrical and hybrid vehicles on one of the levels. The garage was built with consideration for the nearby residential area: motion-activated lights save energy and minimize the impact to the neighborhood around the hospital.
