Earth Day and Education with Local Students

Whenever we have the opportunity, we like to help students learn more about what we do at Peckham Industries, Inc. Continuing a springtime Earth Day tradition with the Dover Middle/High School, our Assistant VP Bob Yaremko and Wingdale Plant Clerk Debbie Carr recently brought some displays and samples of materials to teach the students about our Wingdale quarry, how hot mix asphalt is made from the Wingdale stone, and how asphalt pavement is one of the most recycled materials in the country. The kids like to visit our display, as we give out 3/8″ size chocolate rock candy that looks just like our real rocks.

We were pleased to share some time with the students, and happy to hear from the school principal afterward, who noted, “Wow! What an amazing day! I can’t thank all of you enough for dedicating your time to be with us for our 11th Dover Earth Day! The students absolutely enjoyed themselves and appreciate all you do. On behalf of Dover School District, I want to say thank you so much for bringing what you all love to do into our school. I look forward to seeing all of you again!”
