Peckham Industries, Inc. is pleased to announce the recent acquisition of the Gorman Group’s liquid asphalt terminal assets, as part of a larger transaction wherein the entirety of the Gorman Group was sold. Located in Rensselaer NY, the terminal is the largest privately held asphalt terminal on the East Coast. The acquisition will provide Peckham with additional opportunities in the New York/New England region, supplying both internal and external hot-mix asphalt plants and emulsion mills.  

“This acquisition allows us to further integrate and grow our presence in the Hudson Valley region of New York, one of the most rapidly growing parts of the state.” stated Damian Murphy, President of Peckham Industries, Inc. “We recognize the prominent history of Gorman and the significant contribution the business has made to the region. This terminal will enable Peckham to utilize the multimodal access offered by the Rensselaer terminal for expanded sourcing options, as well as increased proximity to our customers, all of which create opportunities to distribute asphalt in the most cost-efficient manner possible. This acquisition of is a very proud moment for Peckham Industries and we look forward to the integration of these two family-owned and operated companies.”

Recently, the Peckham Family Foundation donated $100,000 to the Pleasant Valley Fire District to support the completion of the “Mill Pump” replacement project. This project aims to bring desperately needed water to the Pleasant Valley firehouse through replacing the currently broken fire pump. The endeavor will provide the water that is necessary for fire protection throughout the district directly from the Wappinger Creek.

As the parent company to Peckham Materials Corp. in Pleasant Valley, Peckham feels a strong commitment to serve its communities’ interests. This donation by the Peckham Family Foundation is one example of how Peckham strives to provide value in the communities it operates in. Peckham Sales Representative and Pleasant Valley resident, Kevin McCarthy, stated, “Donating money to move this stalled project along is a small part of being a good neighbor and that’s what we are. From blood drives to donating materials and helping rebuild the library after the fire, we’re committed to this great town. Helping the fire department get their most important tool, water, just makes sense to the Peckham family.” The Mill Pump project is now on track to begin progressing forward.

As part of Peckham’s commitment to building a sustainable future for members, customers, and communities, Dailey Precast partnered with Efficiency Vermont to analyze the efficiency of the plant’s main air compressor that supplies air throughout the production facility. The team of Efficiency Vermont’s engineering department and Dailey Precast’s maintenance staff were able to apply technology to measure Dailey Precast’s actual compressed air usage and suggest a right-sized 35 horsepower (HP) electric air compressor with variable frequency drive (VFD) to replace the older 75 HP compressor. While the energy savings for having an efficiently sized piece of equipment will carry forward for generations, the payback period for the new compressor is less than one year based on the electricity savings.

Dailey Precast team members delivered results that matter to its community and bottom line by simply measuring its system’s efficiency and taking the obvious action expeditiously. In conjunction with this project, converting lighting in the plant to LEDs, and adding some VFDs to equipment at the Shaftsbury hot mix asphalt plant, Dailey Precast was selected by Efficiency Vermont to receive an Energy Leadership Award for Impact at this year’s Best Practices Exchange in Killington, Vermont. Dailey Precast Operations Manager, Rick Engelhardt, accepted the award on Dailey Precast’s behalf and spoke to the audience about the company’s energy reduction projects. Congratulations to Dailey Precast for exemplifying how Peckham Family Companies actively experiment, leverage technology and engage new ideas to create value through sustainability.

Located in Middletown, NY, Tetz is the leading aggregate, ready-mix concrete, and hot-mix asphalt producer in Orange County NY. The Tetz operations, leadership, and more than 130 dedicated employees will provide Peckham with expanding opportunities in this fast-growing region. Northern Edge Advisors served as the exclusive financial advisor to the Tetz Family for this transaction.
